How to Make Your Stickers Waterproof

A couple weeks ago, I wrote a post about making print-then-cut stickers a few ways with your Cricut. Now, I’d like to show you how to make your stickers waterproof. If you aren’t sure how to make the stickers just look at this post first, “How to Make Print-Then-Cut Stickers in Cricut Design Space” & then come back to this one if you want them waterproof. Making the stickers waterproof is very simple. You’ll need a laminator (I used this one-Scotch Laminator) & laminating sheets – (I bought these – Laminating Sheets).

First off, we’re going into Design Space, & hopefully, you have a file under “My Stuff” with your stickers you made when you worked through the “How to Make Print-Then-Cut Stickers in Cricut Design Space” post. So pull up that file & click on “Make It”. Now, click on the “Send to Printer” button.

After those print out, & before we cut with our Cricut we’re going to use our laminator. Turn your laminator on & let it heat up for about 10 mins. to get good & hot.

This is my sticker sheet I printed out.

You’ll need your laminating sheet now. Put your sticker sheet into the laminating sheet all the way up to the sealed part at the top.

You’re going to put the laminating sheet (with sticker sheet inside) into the laminating machine with the sealed part at the top going in first. Hope that makes sense! 🤔 Put this through the laminator 2x’s, but in between let it cool for apprx. 30 seconds.

Once the laminating is done, we’re going to put the sticker sheet on our green cutting mat so our Cricut can now cut them out. Go back to Design Space & pick your material (choose heavy cardstock) unless you’ve done that already. Here’s a tip: When choosing materials, (if you’re ever making regular stickers that you aren’t waterproofing) & you would like for the stickers to stay on the page & you just peel them off when you want to use one, choose “sticker paper-removable” for your material.

After Cricut cuts each sticker out, you should be able to use your weeding tool & lift them off the mat.

At the end, here’s one of my stickers!

I’ve got one more tip. If you have at least two sticker sheets you want to print & cut out, but you want them to be waterproof, there’s a way you can put the two sheets together with one laminating sheet & laminate them together. You get your moneys worth & save time! Let me show you…

Print out your first sticker sheet. Then you’ll have to click on “cancel” in Design Space to print out your second sheet. Choose your material – “heavy cardstock”.

When laminating, we need your two sticker sheets, a laminating sheet & any 8-1/2″ x 11″ piece of cardstock. We’re going to put the sticker sheets back to back then put the cardstock into the middle of them. So if you flip it back & forth you should see the face of your sticker sheets on each side.

When you’re putting the whole sandwich into your laminating sheet, try to make sure it’s even from side to side. Run it through the laminator two times again, with 30 seconds cooling time in between like before. Once it’s done, you are going to cut on the seal that goes all the way around the outside of the laminated sandwich. Now you’ll be able to pull the sandwich apart. Then you’ll have your two sticker sheets to cut.

Put your second sticker sheet onto the green cutting mat. Go to Design Space to make sure everything is still set – your material is correct & it shows your second sheet in the preview box. If all is ok, then let your Cricut cut it out. After that sheet is done, go back to Design Space & you’re going to have to click “done”. Go back into your canvas & set it up like you are going to print your first sticker sheet again. You click “make it”, then “continue” & when you’re at the print screen, click on the right side where it says “I’ve already printed”. Then pick your material again & cut that one out. All done!

I hope this post on how to make your stickers waterproof has helped you! If you liked this post, please share it on social media, & I would love it if you followed me while you were there!
